At this event, we mingled with the history makers who came out and inspired a new way of thinking during a time our society had the most adverse attitudes toward “gay” people.  We heard stories from our diverse communities who inspired the journeys that led us to where we are today.

The Pride History Show

We heard stories about how the Stonewall Rebellion was one of the first times LGBTQ people came together to FIGHT BACK! In the 70s, new groups started to form that proclaimed, “GAY LIBERATION!” By the time the 90s came around, a new era of Transgender role models took brave, new steps that redefined PRIDE for the LGBTQ community as a whole. Since then, we have continued to come out with new forms of PRIDE.

The HIV and Stigma Show

On November 16th, 2015, over 100 people gathered for an evening devoted to recognizing the history of LGBT people through the generations. Each person participated in creating an interactive timeline to connect to their place in LGBT History. In a prelude to World AIDS Day, six storytellers shared their powerful and unique experiences living with HIV and stigma.  While most members of the audience were knowledgeable about HIV, many had not realized the stigma that HIV carries.

Pilot of Perspective

On June 8th, 2015, 91 people of various generations connected in a unique way on a special evening devoted to LGBT history. Our storytelling show brought a new light to LGBT history and created an opportunity for our different generations to have a new dialogue.   We reflected on our personal lives as we heard several stories of New York City in the 60s, 70s, and 80s which built a bridge between our generations.
